How should I dress?

The hottest season goes from September to March (the opposite to our own) and the rainy season is from April to June. July and August are the “coldest” times of year for Zanzibar but temperatures rarely fall under 25°C. It is always cool and windy by the sea. Seeing as you have chosen a responsible tourism project we invite you to remember that even though it is an island with a huge tourist presence it is still a mainly Muslim isalnd. Clothing should therefore be modest and respectful to local custom, we strongly advise to avoid clothing such as cropped tops, vests, shorts, mini skirts or beach wear in the inhabited areas. We warmly invite you to wear long skirts or trousers and t-shirts rather than vests when visiting the schools and public places.

Obviously swimwear is not worn away from the beach!
